With so many trends and “What To Do’s,” how do you make your wedding personal & unique?
Our riveting & gorgeous bride Rhea tells all on how it worked from her perspective.
Daniel & Rhea’s guests at their wedding at THE SPRINGS continually commented, “The wedding is so YOU!”
First Tip: Ask the Groom What HE Wants
Contrary to belief, this will make your wedding more unique to the TWO of you. Take it from Rhea’s experience:
Daniel was leaning towards a fancy, traditional, “all out” wedding. I was thinking more of a small non-traditional wedding in the woods somewhere. So we slowly worked through every detail together coming from incredibly different places. But instead of feeling like we were compromising about everything, or trading off on who got what their way, it made us figure out what WE really wanted and how to make that work. It wasn’t always easy, but we loved the result.
Second Tip: Incorporate a Special Memory
Rhea & Daniel incorporated personal experiences to make the day more meaningful to them:
I was on tour with an orchestra in Mexico and Daniel came to visit me. We found this amazing churro and hot chocolate restaurant while we were there (that’s all they served!). It was our first international trip together so he had the great idea to use that to inspire the midnight snack!
Third Tip: Assign Roles to Your Guests
The music was all done by my students and led by my colleagues. The officiant was a friend and fellow faculty member as well, and she was fantastic!
Oh, and the guests don’t necessarily have to be people.
Fourth Tip: Let the Experts In
Although you want your OWN wedding, that doesn’t mean you can’t let the experts help you out.
I started out trying to make the decisions myself, starting with the dress. Everything I thought I wanted looked awful… I was getting so frustrated and was about to give up. So the woman in the store took over and said she knew the dress for me. She went right to it in a giant store full of dresses of every style. And she was right! I loved it. And it wasn’t at all what I thought I wanted. When I seemed surprised she said something about how she had been doing this for 15 years and she learned what worked. I realized that people in the wedding business know weddings. And I was doing this for the first time….so why was I making all the decisions? So I hired qualified people, gave them some ideas about our aesthetic, and let them be professionals. It took a ton of stress out of the equation. Things that I never thought of came to be some of my favorite details, and I realized some of the things I would have requested would not have been good.
