There are a lot of things we love about weddings, but without fail,
the couple’s First Dance as husband + wife is always near the top of our list.
Following a traditional timeline, the bride + groom are introduced into the reception and immediately go into their First Dance.
(Remember – “traditional” does not mean “the only way to do it.” There is no wrong way to wedding!)
Considering the fact that your First Dance will most likely be the “kick-off” to your reception (a.k.a. the biggest + best party of your life), we are here to help you choose the P E R F E C T song for such a special moment. We’ve got a few tips for you, as well as a list of our brides‘ favorite First Dance songs.
And we can be honest. We know you’re really here for the songs… so we’ll start with those + then wrap up with the tips. Sound good? Good. 🙂

2 | “Then” by Brad Paisley
Now you’re my whole life. Now you’re my whole world. I just can’t believe the way I feel about you, girl.

I came to life when I first kissed you. The best me has his arms around you. You make me better than I was before. Thank God I’m yours.

As we mentioned earlier, we think choosing your First Dance song is a special + important part of wedding planning
so we do want to leave you with a few tips:
Think through songs that hold importance to you and your future husband/wife. Is there anything that immediately comes to mind?
Is there an artist or band that the two of you love to see in concert together? If so, you may have some good song options on the table already!
And just imagine seeing this artist/band in concert AFTER your wedding and getting to hear them play “your song” live… cue the tears!
Or maybe there are a few First Dance songs you love + you’re having a hard time picking just one. No worries! Have your DJ create a mix of the two (or three or four!)
Some of our favorite First Dances have been a mashup of more than one song. If you plan on doing this, our advice is to start out with the slower song and then move into the fun, more upbeat song!
We say this often, but it’s because we mean it: “traditional” does not mean “the only way to do it.” When it comes to your First Dance song (and your wedding, in general), feel free to think outside the box!
Maybe there is a song you love, but it seems a little overdone? If so, look up a cover! Several songs on the list above are covers of the original. And sometimes, we like it better that way.
So, grab your fiance, grab a cup of coffee or maybe a glass of wine + start listening to some songs. More often than not, you’ll both know it’s “the one” as soon as you hear it. 🙂
And, that’s about it!
