Okay, I’m just going to jump right into this and say that Joel + Rachel’s love story is one of the C U T E S T I’ve ever heard. In fact, it’s almost unreal how perfect it is! In order to get the story just right, I interviewed Rachel. All of the answers below are in her own words. I loved hearing not only about this couple’s love story, but also all about Rachel’s favorite memories from the wedding day. Join me in loving on this real wedding in Rockwall, TX–and see for yourself why I can’t stop gushing!
HOW DID YOU + JOEL MEET?
*S P O I L E R A L E R T*
I’m sorry, but I have to tell you right now why this love story is one of my favorites ever. Joel + Rachel have known each other since
B I R T H. B I R T H !!!
This is seriously every girl’s dream–am I right?!! Having a childhood best friend become your H U S B A N D?! It does not get any better than that!
Okay, sorry for the interruption 😉 Back to Rachel!
We have known each other our whole lives, we even have baby pictures together! I grew up in Texas, and Joel grew up in Louisiana then moved to Missouri at a young age. I lived next to Joel’s grandparents through childhood so any holiday or summer they would visit we would play together. Joel was my first kiss when we were little! It was a small town so many of our family members were friends growing up. My mom was Joel’s mom’s maid of honor in his parents’ wedding!
HOW DID HE PROPOSE?
On January 4, 2017 (my 24th birthday), Joel took me to Klyde Warren Park in Dallas, TX to walk around before getting dinner. It is right in the middle of downtown Dallas, so with the tall buildings and Christmas tree lights still up it was beautiful, and quite cold! As we walked we talked about getting married and future plans (as we did often)… when Joel decided to get on one knee, and he asked me to marry him! Joel had a photographer capture the moment and take some extra pictures as well. We had talked about getting married so I had an idea it would happen soon (just about every date we got dressed up for), but I didn’t think it would be my birthday! I wouldn’t say I didn’t have a clue he would ask, but I was definitely surprised!
“Rachel Michelle Boggs, you’re my best friend. I love you! Happy birthday. Will you please, please, please marry me?”
HOW LONG DID YOU PLAN YOUR WEDDING?
We had seven months to plan. It was stressful, but THE SPRINGS made it very easy to find amazing vendors from their preferred vendors list. I was worried about hiring someone who would do a poor job on wedding day, but I had comfort knowing THE SPRINGS had experience with the vendors from previous weddings.
JOEL + RACHEL FINALLY TIED THE KNOT ON AUGUST 6, 2017 AT THE SPRINGS IN ROCKWALL, POETRY HALL.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE SPRINGS?
Joel and I had looked at a few venues, but we really fell in love when we toured Poetry Hall. We loved the look of the reception hall, and the fact that we would still get to have an outdoor wedding ceremony. THE SPRINGS is truly a beautiful venue without needing much decorating. It was perfect for us.
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE BEST MEMORIES FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY?
Having the venue the entire day was a plus because my bridesmaids and family were able to get ready and have a fun morning while preparing and decorating the tables with little stress on time.
Joel and I kept things traditional and didn’t see each other before walking down the aisle. We had a moment beforehand to share personal vows and pray together. That was one of my favorite memories!
We loved having all of our family and friends come together in one place to celebrate our marriage with us.
Together Joel and I have eight nieces and nephews who were all in the wedding (six under the age of three). It was a little crazy at times but they were so cute to watch!
WHAT IS YOUR BEST ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING A WEDDING?
There are so many little details that go into a wedding, most of them I had no idea I even needed. The little things tend to get overwhelming and stressful. My best advice would be to stay organized. I kept an ongoing list of things that needed to be done and tried to do a little at a time so I wasn’t left scrambling. Try to have fun planning and choose things together so you both contribute to the ideas behind your big day! At the end of the day no one will remember the little things that went wrong, the people who want to be there will be there, and you will be happily married!
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL OTHERS ABOUT TOURING VENUES AND GETTING STARTED WITH WEDDING PLANNING?
Research as much as you can about venues beforehand (prices, reviews, what is offered, etc.) and choose a few to tour that you both love. Have a list of things you absolutely want in your venue, and be ready with questions to ask your tour guide! As for the rest of wedding planning, there are so many apps and Pinterest pages with wedding planning timelines–so that is a good place to start!
N O W do you see why I was gushing over Joel + Rachel, and their wedding day?! These two had the most perfect special day, and we were so honored to be a part of it. We wish them both so much happiness in all the years to come!
