She Said “NO” To The Proposal. . . But You Have To Keep Reading!

Orlando + Shelby went to the same high school.  Although they didn’t really know each other because Orlando was older than Shelby, fate has a way of shooting cupid’s arrow.  After they both were out of high school, Shelby’s sister had some friends over, and lo + behold, Orlando showed up.  Orlando + Shelby had now OFFICIALLY met.

The couple eventually started dating, and their relationship grew stronger + stronger. . .

(All quotes below are from Shelby).

The Sunday of Memorial Day weekend of 2016 I had planned a birthday party for my dog. . .  Yes, my dog! We love any excuse to throw a party! Many of our close friends and family showed up for the party, and I was thinking, “Wow, this is crazy for a dog’s birthday!” At one point during the party everyone went inside to sing Happy Birthday to our dog, and I remember thinking how ridiculous it was–but I loved it!

After we finished singing, Orlando got down on one knee. . .

I was so shocked, I shouted, “NO!”

(“NO” as in, “Is this really happening? I can’t believe it!”)

Shortly after, I realized that was the WORST thing I could’ve said in that moment, because I absolutely wanted to marry him!! He stayed on his knee and just laughed and said, “Really?”–He knew I would say yes, and I did! It makes for a funny story now! I had absolutely no idea he was going to propose!

Orlando + Shelby tied the knot a year later on May 28, 2017 at THE SPRINGS in McKinney, Tuscany Hill.

There are so many reasons I chose THE SPRINGS! The venue is absolutely stunning.  When we booked our date the building was still under construction, but we knew that Tuscany Hill would be perfect! We took advantage of the payment plan which helped so much! We also loved the fact that there is only one wedding per day per building, and you get the venue from 9 a.m. – 12 a.m. Additionally, we got to choose our own vendors, there is a large bridal and groom’s suite, and THE SPRINGS set up all the furniture perfectly for the big day. The last thing that really mattered to us was that it was large enough to accommodate all our guests!

Everything about the day was perfect! I had a wonderful team of vendors. I was very calm and relaxed the morning of because they handled everything! I had a great time getting ready with my girls.

In the blink of an eye it was time to walk down the aisle and I couldn’t wait! Of course marrying my best friend was the best part of the day, but after the “I do”s we had an amazing time with friends and family. It was perfect, and I wish I could go back and do it all again.

The best advice I have for other couples planning a wedding would be to plan your budget first, and then lock down your vendors–sooner than later. Once you have all your vendors, it’s easier to focus on all the other little details… because there are SO many! If you are booking a day-of coordinator, a lot of them will help you with small things and answer questions you have, even though it’s technically not the day-of. My coordinator was amazing and SO helpful! Plan your guest list early and start gathering addresses–it is very helpful to have that all together once you are ready to send save the dates. I made a lot of lists and kept track of all that I had spent and what I still needed to pay for.

Most of all, relax and enjoy the planning because it will be time for your big day before you know it! It can get stressful and I was very stressed at times, but it was SO worth it! It was the best day of our lives, and we have heard over and over how much fun everyone had, which is exactly what we wanted!

Oh, and the sooner you tour and book your venue, the better. Getting your venue booked is basically the most important thing. You want to make sure you get the date you want, and you need to have a set date so that you can start booking other vendors. Once I booked THE SPRINGS, all the planning started.
