For some, the benefits of going to college turn out to be much more than just an education. Josh + Kaleen can both definitely say they not only got a degree from their university, but they also found the love of their lives! In fact, this UNT couple decided to tie the knot at THE SPRINGS this past summer–and we couldn’t be more honored to have been a part of their special day!
I had the privilege of interviewing Kaleen to get all of the details on how her + Josh met, as well as her favorite memories from the wedding day. All of the answers below are in her own words!
HOW DID YOU + JOSH MEET?
We were both in the UNT drum line, and I immediately fell for him. A little over three months into my freshman year of college, I was in my first serious relationship with the man of my dreams–who I would marry almost five years later!
TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL!
Josh proposed in Fredericksburg, Texas, after being long distance for a year. Although I knew we were going to Fredericksburg to enjoy the wine country, I thought we were staying at a cheap hotel just off the square. After a five hour drive from Dallas, I was ready for a shower and food, but Josh insisted on driving to “pick some peaches” at a local farm. To my surprise, instead of a peach farm, we pulled up to a beautiful bed and breakfast overlooking the hills. We then dropped off our things, and headed out to enjoy the town. Before we left, Josh took me for a walk through the hills, asked for some lotion out of my purse, and instead pulled out a gorgeous ring! His mom was hiding inside the bed and breakfast taking photos of the entire exchange, and I was in tears almost the entire time. I later found out that he had designed the ring himself, and it is everything I could have ever wished for!
Josh + Kaleen tied the knot on June 23, 2017 at THE SPRINGS in Denton, The Ranch.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE SPRINGS?
We chose THE SPRINGS because of the beautiful landscaping, decoration, and flexibility of vendors. Kathy and her team at THE SPRINGS in Denton truly made us feel at home, and we felt so comfortable knowing that they were honest and good people! We knew that going with a mid-summer wedding, we wouldn’t be spending much time outside, but it was important for us to be surrounded by beautiful nature. We also loved the interior and how it reminded us of a vineyard, but with a much bigger space (and the bridal suite… wow!). Lastly, we loved that we were able to choose our vendors and this made our wedding much more affordable for our price range.
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE BEST MEMORIES FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY?
Our entrance into our reception was incredible! The walk down the beautiful stairs and entering to see all of our loved ones surrounding us was a beautiful moment.
Our first dance was to a cover of “La Vie en Rose,” that was sung by Josh’s best man–this was a fabulous personal touch to an already emotional moment of the evening.
There are too many special moments to count–it seems like everything fell into place so perfectly, it’s so hard to put into words!
DID YOU DO ANYTHING SPECIAL FOR YOUR GRAND EXIT?
We had a bubble exit, and then left in a beautiful Pierce Arrow!
WHAT IS YOUR BEST ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES PLANNING A WEDDING?
Hire a day-of coordinator! We originally were going to do everything ourselves the day-of, and were having to plan down to the minute of how to get everything done (as well as having to work the entire day). After a few months of planning, we decided to check into day-of coordinators, and we are so glad that we did! Our planners, Beth and Kim from Two Girls in Pearls, were our lifesavers, and helped turn our wedding into our dream come true! Things will go wrong, and I’m so glad that we had Beth and Kim to keep everything under control.
IF YOU COULD DO IT OVER AGAIN, WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING?
I wish I would have given myself more time to get ready. I definitely underestimated the amount of time it would take, and therefore felt more pressured than I would have liked (although in reality I still had plenty of time). Give yourself at least two and a half hours to get everything done–hair, makeup, and putting on the dress! It’s something that I wish I could have savored just a little bit more!
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL OTHERS ABOUT GETTING STARTED WITH WEDDING PLANNING?
Do as much as you can early on! We had almost our entire wedding planned within the first six months, and this made it easier to get things done when we realized we had forgotten something. Through the second half of our engagement, we were able to enjoy the planning process, and give our wedding more personalized touches than we had originally planned.
We sure L O V E this sweet couple–and their wedding was perfection! Thank goodness y’all met at UNT–it truly was meant to be!
